Red Orange Lights In The Sky. What Are They??
So, what are these red orange lights that are silently sweeping across the skies of late? My sons and I were outside New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2012) to watch some midnight fireworks. About 11:50 p.m. we saw a red orange light move from southwest to northwest in the sky above where we live in St. Petersburg, Florida. Then… it vanished. Nothing for it to hide behind, it was a cloudless night. It was clearly NOT a firework. Then, about 5 minutes later, a white light came from about the same spot where the other one disappeared and headed south again at a higher rate of speed and we lost it over the tree line. Weird. So the next day I look online and these things have been seen all over Florida for the past week. Any ideas?? Is the invasion on? LOL.

UPDATE: After reading about them today and hearing input from people all over the world, I’m gonna have to say that what I saw resembled the characteristics of a sky lantern or Chinese lantern… Well played, Earthlings… well played… I don’t mind being hoaxed or trolled though, best to keep the amusement up! I live in toronto last night january 1 2013 about 1 am in the morning i was getting some air on the balcony when at first i saw a red light coming from the downtown area of toronto at first i thought it was a plane then the light turned left and headed my way east
Im on the seventh floor as it passed a straight line in front of me i got a real good look at it
it was white in the center as the light moved outward it gradually changed to orange and orange to a red glow there was also a pattern within the light it also had the most awesome glow to it unlike any other light i have ever seen before wow!!!!!!!!!!! i just stopped my jaw droped and i was in awe like i have never been before
The light seemed to move slow and effortlessly and without a sound totally silent but some how the light was covering lots of ground and moving away quickly that part i really dont get how something can appear to be moving slowly but still moving out of your vision quickly
As the light passed in front of me and away turning right now heading over lake ontario on a south east heading towards the united states it still seemed to be going slow but it began a steady climb upward maybe a 45 degree angle upward it begain to dim out on me untill it was just a little twinkle in the sky like a star and then nothing gone from my vision
The whole sighting was about a minute and a half from start to finish
All i can say is that i have always been a believer but im also a skeptic because im a need definitive proof kind of person and as far as im concerned now i have it thanks for listening Randy
PS if you get any other kind of news on the sighting i described from last night could you maybe tell me i have been looking around the internet tv news to see if anyone else saw it last night it would really help me a lot to know im not the only one who saw that last night thanks
I saw the same thing in Winnipeg,manitoba in may 2012 between the 13 and 16 not sure what day but just after my son was born. There was 7 of us that saw it. The weirder thing I have ever saw.
We have just seen exactly the same thing! Todays date is 04/04/13. I went to collect my husband and daughter from the train station in Exeter, UK, and was driving home through the countryside at about 9.45pm. I actually stopped the car and we all got out to look. We saw a strange orange light that seemed to move quite slowly but at the same time covered a great deal of distance. At one stage it seemed to accelerate sharply and then slow down again. When it disappeared it seemed to shrink very quickly and then vanish from view. The weirdest thing was that there was absolutely no engine sound. If it was some kind of aircraft I’m sure we would have heard it as it is a very still night. We came straight home and googled similar experiences.
If you saw this on 04/04/2013, that is really strange, because I saw the same thing about the same time on that date and I live in Indianapolis, Indiana US
I notice that there are a lot of sceptics on this subject but here in Meyerton ,Gauteng South Africa ,two other people that I work with have also winessed the orange/red lights in Meyerton this last month but the one I witnessed went as follows:- On Sat 11/05/13 18:15 hrs
Almost dark and the weather conditions were stormy and a lot of lightning in the same area but not raining just then /I had just stopped to drop my son off at a friend when we saw approaching from
the south – what looked like an aircraft on fire travelling from south to north at about +- 5000 feet we jumped out of the car and watched as the “Plane” which was covered in orange
“flames” travelling at approx the same speed as a normal
Boeing 737 +- 400 -500 KM/HR??curved downwards for a short way almost as if it was now going down , but then it stopped in mid air , hovering ,and then instead of flames the object was glowing a deep scarlet/orange even visible when the lightning struck in the area around it – the shape was difficult to make out but to me it appeared at that angle “trapezoidal” i.e. angled from a flat bottom to a narrower flat top , it continued to glow like that for around 4-5 minutes and moved very slowly on occasion from side to side then moved of into the clouds west.
I was thinking that the flaming was caused by some ablative material that the object uses as a shield during entry into the atmosphere , then stops to re assess position ect then moves on
the object did seem to diminish in brightness , was this as it cooled down?? the Incident lasted about 4 mins and unfortunately I did not have my cell to take shots!!

Hi , Yeah there I was in 1978 in the midst of the Rhodesian war , I was in a unit that did various operations , including ambushes , we were in ambush on that night ( I might add that up to that point I had never really considered that I would never experience anything like this , and all of the “tall tales” people have related through time , were just stories)
It was around 20.00 hrs , dark clear skies ,My four black African soldier compatriots and I were lying on our sleeping bags , I was lying belly down with my face on my arms. Suddenly the ground under my arms was light up so brightly that I could see the grains of sand as though under the brightest LED lamp. I looked up , and hovering about 3 feet above me was a ball with a sharp outline , like a ping pong ball ,white in color , no markings , just pure white , about 150mm in dia , I was paralysed , but at the same time very calm.The weird thing here was that I could look directly at the ball and it was no brighter to me than a mild 5 watt fluorescent bulb , but the light around me coming from the ball was so bright it lit everything up around us like a permanent lightning bolt !! Then the ball rose straight up , fairly slowly as I continued to watch it ,the light coming from the ball (as it reached a height of maybe 100 feet) also now light up these brown colored clouds about 200 feet above where we were lying, but again here is the catch , these clouds were roiling and turning very quickly ,always folding inwards , just like those weather reports where they speed up the clouds motion.
As the ball got closer the clouds seemed to open gradually revealing a deep red fire inside the clouds , and as it got within 10 feet (all guestimates) of the cloud a small aperture in the cloud opened ,let me tell you that the brightest light I have ever witnessed came out of that small gap , the ball rose up into that bright spot , and then the clouds
(all this time moving rapidly , and take note not a sound emitted during this whole incident with exception -at the end) closed up folding inwards behind the small ball closing the gap.It then became dark but I could just make out the brown clouds which as quickly as they had come
disappeared , and then it was just a starlight clear sky again Then in the distance I heard a faint “boom” as though something had gone through the sound barrier .
The one soldier next to me on watch was terrified , and had scrambled back in the bushes , he told me that the ball of light had suddenly appeared on the back of my head,??!! this incident still haunts me nearly 30 years later , it has left me totally puzzled
I saw the exact same thing on new years eve. I was driving to the gym and saw a similar bright orange light. I looked closer as i had almost dismissed it as a helicopter. It flew overhead as i was driving and turned increasingly red.
At this point I was looking straight
through my sun roof, and the thing rose straight up slowly and just slowly disappeared.

Holy crap, I actually saw one of these last night!
I was driving with my little sister to get her a game for her DS that she got for Christmas when I noticed the light going past some apartments on the way. I figured it was a light from a plane or a helicopter or something, but it never game back. There one second, gone the next. I was curious about it for a couple minutes but didn’t think anything of it until just now.
I just posted this after seeing this in the sky last night… it was really weird. Just a bright orange light but there’s no way it was a lantern or a firework.

i got a video of those red lights too, certainly not chinese floating candle lanterns, too fast and too high. ive posted the video on facebook and yep… my friends make fun of me.
I live in New Zealand and have seen these orange lights, I know they were not any known aircraft and the suggestion of flying lanterns in my case is ludicrous . I’m now just a tad obsessed with finding out what they are and google regularily . Thanks for sharing most people don’t for fear of ridicule

We may never find all of the answers, or even half, but it’s nice to have a good place where we can share our experiences without condescension. You all rock!
Just saw the same thing described above. It was in the southern San Diego sky at about 8:15pm (Jan 14, 2013). weird. I hate things that are unexplainable.

21/01/2013, I just saw an orange then red then orange light in the sky, slght glow, it moved right and then away quickly,then it dissapeared , just like that, it was over in seconds, this happened around 20:30, Cape Town, South Africa.
Hello everyone. I live in Detroit. Sometime in January 2013 (now 2-6-13) I was driving home from work. I came to an intersection and noticed orange lights in the sky. My attention was particulary caught because of the number of lights–looked like a bunch of lights as I sat at an intersection. I then pulled into the nearest parking lot to get a closer look, undistracted by driving. There were 16 lights total–three groups of four, followed by four more in a single file line. From my perspective, they came from the Northern Hemisphere, and were orange most of the time, but would turn an intense red on occasion, with no apparent timed pattern. The lights were high in the sky and moved from the Northern Hemisphere to the center of North and South, at a slow pace, and then just disappeared out of sight, as if exiting the atmosphere. I haven’t seen anything like it, except once in Brighton, MI during the summer of 2010 late at night. Brighton was only one light that moved slowly across the sky. Again, this was orange, but I don’t recall a change to intense red. In this instance, it seemed to move very slow and low. I was with a friend, and he took notice, as well. On both occasions, the sky was clear and crisp.
Postscript: It took all but 2-3 minutes for the lights to travel the path described above. I tried calling a friend. I tried calling my Mom. I went home (about a 1/2 mile or so away) to see the final outcome. They all moved out of atmosphere near the same point.
Well, I’m very happy that we’re not the only ones to have seen these lights. I seen 3 of theses lights last night. Then I called for my son to come and see them as I need a witness.lol. My father also came out to see them. I needed a educated guess as to what they were. I live close to Vancouver B.C. Well as I said I seen 3 of them when I called to my son. In addition to the 3 we seen about 7 more after that. There is no way that any of our aircraft could be that high. Yeah. They were doing the exact same thing you say you seen. These things would come into view, a bight orange or red. Then just disappear from view. I would say that they are meteors or some other things burning up as the enter the atmosphere or maybe a blown satellite with its broken pieces burning up as it enters the atmosphere. Although that doesn’t make sense. Why would a blown satellite come back towards earth? Well maybe. But whatever they were. They were strange. I’m glad that we were not the only ones to have seen these things. There is a scripture in the bible that says, there will be signs in the heavens. I expect things to get only more strange as we get closer to the end or the new beginning. Which ever you may call it. The end or a new start. Maybe these lights are just a part of that. But we have seen may strange things in our skies over the years. To say that we are alone we be even more strange than saying we aren’t. Hopefully we can find out what these lights really were though
I have photo of two lights over Atlanta Georgia. I first saw about 15 of the lights and though it was a squadron of helicopters. I wish I had snapped a picture.
The incident happened about 7:30 PM, and the lights appeared in the south eastern sky. I can provide picture if anyone is interested.
How very interesting . . . It is really very easy to be skeptical re these sitings . . .Until you become an observerver . These bright orange lights moving noislessly through the sky have been sighted in most parts of the world and reported on many blog sites .Far too many to be co-incidence and far too many different people reporting the same characteristics . Almost all of the sightings such things as the intensity of the bright red/orange lights ,noiseless flight ,dissapearance either into cloud , behind trees or simply out of sight.
The interesting point is that if these were legitimate aircraft then they should be displaying internationally recognised navigation light colours . . Green for starboard (right) and red for port(left). (not to mention the white forward lights nor the underbelly aft light) The absence of these lights on aircraft flying at night is illegal

I saw around 12 red lights last night. 1st in a grid like formation in the sky. Then they moved slowly out of order. Combining with others and drifting slowly to different patterns. Before I could stop the car and snap a photo they were gone

I just seen a reddish orange flashing light moving gradually across the sky, I noticed it wasn’t making any noise like an air plane or any other air craft and I call my brother out and he seen it as well , we watched it as it passed over us and as we were watching it got dimmer as it passed us and suddenly disappeared and no were to be seen , there were no clouds in site , I just want to know what it was

I to have witness this type of phenomenon, I live in Porirua, New Zealand, on the night of 28 March at around 23:30 I had just gone outside to have a ciggy when I noticed three orange lights moving across the sky, there was a wesrterly wind and the objects were moving in the same direction, Then two of the guys I was with came out to view then, we then observed another four of the objects, we could not hear any sound from them, each of the objects appeared to come from the same area in the sky, however they all had a slightly different heading. The objects were predominantly orange/red. Some have said it was either Chinese lanterns or reflections of the sun over the horizon. I too beleive, :we are not alone”
Last night (April 7th, 2013) around 9 pm, my wife and I saw 8 of these red/orange lights travelling across the sky from west to east (Malton,ON to Concord,ON). They all had the same trajectory but at inconsistent intervals and speeds. Some streaked right across; while others seemed to slow down; dip and then continue on.
I live in rapid city SD, home of the ellsworth airforce base. I was driving home from Walmart tonight, April 12 2013, at about 10:40 pm and noticed a bright red light in the sky. It was not flashing or moving. Just silently hovering slightly in the overcast of the night. Note: there were no stars able to be seen in the sky. I was with my roommate and girlfriend. Both of which had seen it. We pulled over to watch it. It turned to an orange color, then to a bluish color, till it turned white and vanished.
I have seen it a couple of years ago at Deajeon city where is middle part of South Korea.
I took a video but it didn’t take the orange lights because of shortage of camera pixel.
just as i was entering my work place today 14/04/2013 at about 21:55 in Cape Town V&A Waterfront marina, i saw a glowing red light true the misty clouds and it seemed to be moving at the same speed as the clouds were in the same direction which was coming from the direction of Signal Hill heading toward the south.
I just saw it tonight. Asked myself the same thing What the heck is that?????

I spotted tonight 28 April 2013 a orange light in he sky going over my house in.Christchurch, New Zealand.I was automatically amazed and assumed it was a plane untill i clearly noticed it wasnt. It was silent and had all same effects as described below. Now i very curious
We all just saw the same thing here at Point Samson, Western Australia. It was 7:18pm tonight, just over an hour ago. We first thought someone had let off a flare as it was going up but then it came towards us slowly and we thought maybe a helicopter? But the red ball of light didn’t flash and made no noise. It then passed by us and slowly but quickly if that makes sense faded off into the distance. We got a video of it. We can’t explain it.
Hi I also saw it here in kempton park south africa glad to see I’m not the only one from south africa it was a big brings orange redish light it threw across the sky and dissapeard was like something wAs on fire and thrown..wonder what it is???
Randy Mann’s description couldn’t describe it any better for us… We live in Sudbury Ontario and seen the same light (only 1) May 4, 2013 @ about 10:40pm. Being a little weirded out and my girlfriend playing it out to be nothing, she googled it to prove me wrong and found this site…now she’s a little weirded out…more than I originally was LOL. We’ll keep on checking this site to see how many more sightings will be posted. They all seem to be recent. Strange….

So last night or this morning at about 1:25 AM i went outside for a smoke and looked up in the sky and saw 4 red/orange lights 1 in front and the 3 behind where in a perfect triangle formation the speed was constant and after they passed my house they all of the sudden formed a perfect line. The lights where traveling south, and I live in Plainfield, IL. So what are they? anyone have any ideas?
Do you think that these orange lights may be aircraft navigation lights, maybe military aircraft, I know you didn’t see any flashing or red, green and white lights but probably all aircraft have two small orange beacon lights one on the back of the aircraft’s fusalage near the tail and one underneath in the middle, perhaps you are seeing them from such an angle that these are the only visible navigation lights.I take it there was no sound but that could be dependant on distance and wind direction. I guess you’re wondeing if I have seen similar lights well the answer is yes, on sunday may 19th uk time i just fancied going out “UFO” spotting in some fields near where i live as I have had a few sightings throughout my lifetime, mostly orange lights, and sure enough around 10.45pm an orange light appeared after being there for three quarters of an hour almost giving up hope and contemplating on going home, it appeared just to the left of the quarry mound that was visibe in the distance and traveled from left to right as just a bright orange light nothing else no other lights at all, it followed the tree line turned gently to the right then disappeared behind the trees. Then nothing for around another 45 mins when a second one appeared in the same area and followed the exact same flight path but at a couple of intervals it seemed to slow down and kinda hover then move off becoming dimmer then brightening up again before disappearing behind the tree line. No sound but then again we (my son and I) where a good distance away. So are they aircraft perhaps secret military craft possibly drones or are they beings from another galaxy/ dimension, someone knows it’s just we’re not allowed to yet but i feel 2013 is the year of the truth , as the government can’t deny all these sightings that have been going on for years. My wife and I saw the same thing in southern Mississippi, May 10, 2013. Must have been at least 30 of them, and they did not make a sound. reddish orange. Got my binolculars and tried to make out what they were, but the light was just a blur. Seemed to be triangular, like a three corner hat shaped. To the naked eye though, just looked like red balls. Moved from Southwestern sky to Southeastern sky from my perspective.
I witnessed the “fireballs” as well. At 12:40am Sunday May 26/13, my husband and I were finishing up a movie and heading to bed when a bright red/orange light caught my attention out my living room window. The light was coming from the north and I motioned to my husband to come look. We thought at first it was one of those lanterns but as it came closer we knew for sure it was not. It went over my house so we went outside and saw it floating across the sky traveling south. It was flying the same height as a plane but not as high as a jet.
As it passed on by, with no sound, there came another after it, appearing to follow the same path, at the same speed and having the same intensity in colour. About five or ten seconds another fireball followed. We saw no tail like with comets and they all just floated quickly by with no sound until they were no longer in sight. We live in St. Thomas, Ontario. Was such an amazing sight!
last year i saw the same lights in the sky with a friend like im not fucking joking there were 3 red/orange light in a same line follow by anpther which was like chasing them in a higher speed, bealive me or not , i know what i watchd and i was amazed how close it was to your descrption, sorry for my irnglosh , I live in CANCUN MEX ,
I saw 15 orange lights last night near Bath in the UK. About 1.30 in the morning, very quiet, quite slow moving, almost floating through the air, then they just disappeared! Thought it was military aircraft but after reading other people’s experience, not so sure!!!!
I just witnessed the same red lights! Two of them. I was baffled! They were bright red round lights, no sound, pretty high up going at a good speed. on sat june15,me n bout 15 people we’re hangin out and seen what looked like. orangish red fire balls…bout 25 we’re slowly moving in upward angle bout 4 mor followed behind but sum looked brighter red than others..we tried catching it on cell fone but picture wasn’t good..this happend in toledo oh…havnt heard nothing on news..I no we weren’t only ones to see this…what could they be
