Book Review: “Hippos Go Berserk!”
A thousand fifty-five and a half kudos to Sandra fuckin’ Boynton! She, in all of her unabashed wisdom, has written with great clarity and unique skill a story that everyone from 4 to 400 can relate to. In a state bordering on sheer ennui and a little loneliness, the main character, Hippo #1 makes a call to a friend to come over to his house to chill. Maybe knock back a cold one, watch football, listen to some Overkill… who knows what for? Well, the laughs start immediately when the second hippo invites another hippo and soon the book climaxes with 44 hippos partying in the living room. Going berserk? Yes, in the most unbridled way you could imagine. It appears in the accompanying picture that perhaps they are enjoying some duck duck goose thrashing to Anthrax’s “Caught In The Mosh”. Shortly thereafter (the book is not clear on whether or not the cops were called), the party starts to break up just as exponentially as it formed. Not to be a complete spoiler, but the book ends in much the way it begins… One Hippo with One Mission… to FUCKIN’ PARTY! (Which leads me to think a sequel is possible because again, the hippo is bored and lonely).
I give this book seven thumbs up and highly recommend it to those who understand the need to have people around now and again.
