Album Review: K*F*C* - "Kill A Mall" (Old School Thrash Metal)

      

       I know what you’re thinking… “ho-hum, another retro-thrash band…”… BUT WAIT!!!! What seperates K.F.C. from other newer bands playing 80′s inspired thrash metal is one very basic (almost to the point of necessary) idea. They recorded this bad boy using nothing but old school equipment. It literally sounds as though it came from 1988! Also, the music is very very good… finger pluckin’ good, even. Hailing from the largely unrecognized thrash playground of Montpelier, Vermont, the band Killa Filla Chinchilla deliver on the notion of mixing 666 herbs and spices of moshin’ goodness. Fronted by verbose vocalist Buck Chili, and all featuring bassist V.D. Burni, 7-foot-1 guitarist Davekimbe Mustaintumbo, and drummer Large Ostrich, K.F.C. have been tearing up Vermont since 1998. In fact, it is said that Municipal Waste, Fueled By Fire, and Bonded By Blood have opened for them. What took so long to release an album? It would appear that they were waiting until the noise generated by the other bands died down just a little. Plus, Ostrich had been touring previously with a grindcore band called Traumatic Anal Devastation.  The band is a devoted four piece (a breast, wing, leg, and thigh?) and they wouldn’t think of even playing a show or practicing unless all four were present.

       The 10 songs on the album were all written at least 5 years ago. Some that should be immediate hits are “Poultrysurge”, “Chicken Is My Business…”, “Fried The Lightning”, and “Six Piece By Six Piece By Six Piece”. If they have one song that is kind of lazy and uninspired, it is “Rooster Madness”, which lyrically is interesting and based on the hysteria and hype generated by those who want us to avoid eating fried chicken due to cruelty and other nonsense, but musically just sort of drags on like Slayer’s “Dead Skin Mask.”

       If you strictly like Lich King, Gama Bomb, and Dr. Livingdead, this band might not be your cup of gravy, BUT if you are into Laaz Rockit, Evildead, Assassin, and Faith Or Fear, to name a few. Grab this immediately!
