There is, as they say, a thin line between love and hate. A band that I literally worshipped as a kid back in the 80′s, Metallica could do no wrong. They were Optimus Prime, Santa Claus, and Hope Solo all wrapped up into one (Hope Solo now, was she even alive in the 80′s??). Anyway, I knew quickly when I heard the ‘Black Album’ that the pedestal had fallen and had crumbled irreparably. Really? Was that the same band? They went from writing long epic masterpieces to single riff 4 minute radio hits?? Metallica???? Of course it wasn’t the end of the world, it was 1991 and I was new into the discovery of death metal. Making Metallica obsolete in my mind wasn’t gonna hurt a bit. I had Death, Obituary, and Pestilence to fall back on. But, it ould be negligent on my part not to at least rank their albums given what they’d done for metal back in the good years. So, here’s my list. Feel free to tell me how incredibly wrong it is and how you’d fix it.

Master of Puppets on #4? That album is Metallica’s masterpiece. The one when people said ‘Holy shit!’ …Ought to be #1.
1-4 are obviously eye of the beholder (no pun intended), but Lulu should really be dead last. It makes John & Yoko’s “Two Virgins” seem like Vulgar Display of Power.

Idk if I’d say Lulu was better than any of those others. And I feel like Black Album is better than Load, St. Anger and Lulu but the rest is alright

Although I agree with your statement about the Black Album, I disagree with it’s placement. Musically it’s still valid. Much more so then anything they did after it. Death Magnetic seemed to be getting them back on track but that doesn’t warrant it being placed high either.
Anyway. IMHO:
1. MoP. (pinnacle of their creativity)
2. Ride The Lightning ( unpolished greatness)
3.And Justice… (over polished greatness)
4. Kill ‘Em All (raw power)
5. Black Album (Pop power)
6.Death Magnetic (glance back to their roots)
7. S&M (greatest hits + Ennio)
8. Load. (90s WTF)
9. ReLoad (90s WTF pt 2)
10. Lulu (Trying to gain relevance with someone who’s now irrelevant? WTF! pt 3.)
11. St Anchor or St.Anker. (We don’t know where to go with our scene anymore. We’ve create some decent music here, but our melodies will be horrific and amateurish. So bad in fact that people will buy up our back catalog in fear we’ve gone off the deep end and will never make another good album; which we won’t because Cliff’s material, inspiration and guidance is now long gone because we used it up on long ago).
Lulu and St. Anger are higher up than Black, Load, and Reload?! Who made this list? Granted Reload wasn’t great. But it was easily better than St. Anger and Lulu

anything after justice is just fuckin garbage in my opinion.. lars was crying about napster making money off them how about they pay us back the money we wasted on those shit albums. i bought them all hoping something good would be there but never was….
