Thrash Metal Bands Report Weird New Mosh Pit Craze
Ask anyone who has been in a mosh pit lately and they’ll tell you, people don’t hit as hard as they did 20 and 30 years ago. Of course there was always an ettiquette to the art, but back in the day people used to really hit hard. Now, today’s generation of video game addicted teens barely brush up against each other. According to a few thrash bands though, a strange new style has emerged. Aardvark Monarch guitarist Will Cannon sums it up like this “I first noticed a year ago at a show in Boston that one kid would run around the open circle shouting ‘DUCK!’ as he tagged a few people who were just watching the band play. Then he’d tag someone and yell ‘GOOSE!’ and it was on… everyone chased him and knocked him into a pulp. Now, it happens at shows we play all over the world sometimes. You never know when it will break out.” Pete Klusterfukk, drummer for the band Grim Reefer said “It’s only a matter of time until someone is killed. This is out of control. But it’s kind of funny to watch.”
So, it appears that Duck Duck Goose is the new in-thing with the kids in the metal community. That would probably explain the findings we came up with at a Dubstep show in Charlotte, North Carolina. We surveyed 20 kids who went to see the dupstep group AJ7K33G>>S (pronounced ‘PICKLE’). Sadly, 90% of them think that dubstep will eventually make heavy metal irrelevant. In fact, two people wrote in answers like “Who the fuck is Tom Araya?” and “Dubstep is far more important and popular that metal ever was.” To be completely honest, we here at Universe Number Five have no friggin’ clue what dustep is. But, it sounds hilarious!
Oklahoma To Ban Duck Duck Goose?

I’ve gotten my ass kicked in pits pretty hard. I’ve been knocked unconscious and had my hat stolen in the late 90s. I was in Canada at a show in 2005 and was surprised how lightly people were hitting each other.
everyone’s pc up there. don’t want to play too rough, that’s a sign of rising testosterone and that’s bad.
I don’t know man, I’m in Ottawa and I’ve been to some pretty raging shows before and have left with a bloody face many times in the 00′s. It just depends on the mood of the crowd and the band really. I’ve seen metal shows in the 80′s where people just stood there awkwardly. And honestly is there a certain macho pride to having your head kicked at a metal/punk show? Seems kind of retarded
I’m almost 39 … I’ve literally been knocked out of my shoes, black eyes, bruised ribs… and fuck dubstep.
The metal will live on. You cannot kill the Metal.
Lol Dubstep. What a bunch of crap. And a few shows I’ve been too in the past 5yrs have had some hard hitting going on. Smashed the bones around my eye, broke a few ribs, fucked up my knee on numerous occasions.
Fuckin’ Gay! Ive been hearing the term dupstep and 2step thrown around a lot lately, i have no idea what it means, but there is definitely no etiquette in the pit anymore. 20 years ago youd be moshin and skankin and hittin hard, knockin people over. But yet youd help em back up and laugh about it and carry on. Good timez. Now adays the damn unknowing kids just wanna piss everyone off and get the livin shit beat out of themselves. I was at an outside show at a park a couple years back and this kid kept doin roundhouses at and into everyone, i was sittin on a picknick table and he did it to me and i grabbed him by his legs put him upside down and bounced him on his fuckin head. Little piece of shit!
If you don’t know what dubstep is then you’re probably under a rock.
Or it’s just THAT irrelevant.
it depends which show and where you go to see them play, I think the hardcore scene really fucked up the moshpit to be honest, you can’t have monkeys swinging their arms when others are colliding in to each other like atoms; they’re incompatible.
With moshpits these days a lot of the actual moshing isn’t freestyle now with bands having to give signs for everything. And with the rise of new mosh pit trends like this duck duck goose and the 2step being brought in as the new gen of ‘metal’ comes I predict it can only get worse…
Haha A black eye on the city of Charlotte but we’ve survived worse. My only question regarding dubstep is “what the fuck is a skrillex?”
it’s a type of mop
man fuck dubstep! Metal is the way forward! \m/
haha dubstep will end metal? i dont think so, we have survived over 30 fucking years!through glam metal and grunge and we dont give in to shitty trends like dubstep! your music has no musical value, i dont see the talent in dubstep
HAHA yeah right FUCK DUB-STEP i’m 47 and i can tell you i still go in the pit today’s younger group hit like pussies but then again i am 6 foot 5″ and i weigh 330 pounds i’ve never been knocked down at a show then i see these lil faggots in the pit thinkin they are big and bad thats when i say game on and it’s time to smash those lil punks into the floor……lol
people used to mosh to anything 15 years ago. and anything was better than the lame emocore/metalcore shit of today that sounds like it was chewed in someone else mouth and trough-fed to the clueless masses
