The Secret To Jeremy Lin’s Success: Thrash Metal
Jeremy Lin, the 23-year old phenom of the New York Knicks, has exploded onto the scene the last couple weeks. Where did he come from? Perhaps from the same realm of obscurity that Kurt Warner emerged from in 1999. Or, perhaps Palo Alto, California. The Chinese – Taiwanese has given basketball fans something to talk about this season. To what does he attribute his success, though? The scrappy ex-Harvard star would probably give you all the cliched answers, work hard, practice, eat lots of Taco Bell’s Beefy Crunch Burritos , etc., but those who know him say something different.
Former Palo Alto High teammate Elwood “The Stick” Martin reports “We’d always play Kanye West at practice, and Jeremy would go over to the stereo and put in something called “Bonded By Blood” or “Reign In Blood” or something and would suddenly be transformed into a little Magic Johnson. We eventually got used to it and stopped arguing with him about it.” Former Harvard teammate Stumpy McGraves added “Jeremy would get us all going by playing stuff like Dark Angel, Sodom, and Anthrax. The team’s theme song became “Extreme Aggression” by a band called Kreator, with a ‘K’.” Current NBA teammate Carmelo Anthony has even been seen lately wearing Overkill and Xentrix T-shirts. “Jeremy is out to revolutionize basketball with that thrash noise, It ain’t too bad though, after you get used to it.” stated Anthony.
